Casa-Museu Enric Prat de la Riba
Enric Prat de la Riba House Museum
The visit to the Prat de la Riba House Museum will enable us to discover a wealthy country house from the early 20th century.
It has been designated a historic-artistic monument since it was the place where Enric Prat de la Riba i Sarrà (1870 -1917), an eminent jurist, president of the Diputació de Barcelona (an economic and administrative institution with authority at provincial level) and founder and first president of the Catalan Community, was born and died.
By means of faithfully preserved spaces and newly decorated ones, it enables the visitor to explore the biography and political views of this great Catalan patrician, and discover the significance and survival of his work.
El Castell de Castellterçol
The Castle of Castellterçol
The castle of Castellterçol is situated on the outskirts of the town towards southeast. There are written references to it dating back to the year 898 and it was built – probably around the second half of the 9th century – by Terçol, a trusted advisor of Guifré el Pilós, Count of Barcelona, after whom the town is named. Currently the graveyard, a part of the ramparts with the corresponding loopholes and the remains of the old house of the lords, dating from the 12th century, still survive and can be visited. In the 16th century, within the walls the present tenant farmer’s house was built
El Roquer
El Rentador de la llana del Roquer (Roquer wool washing place)
El Roquer is a singular building located behind the last industrial premises of the El Vapor industrial estate, on the other side of the Fontscalents stream. It is a beautiful building with a stone barrel vault with scabbled stone voussoirs which form an arch. This stone vault gives way to another vault with a diameter of about 10 metres, which extends to the back of the natural rock cave. Below, there is the Roquer, a place where wool used to be washed in the past.
nucli urbà
The town centre
The town centre, dominated by the slender belfry of the parish church dating from the 14th century, has old houses such as Cal Recader, Cal Malric, Can Dou or Casa Planella, and modernist buildings and industrial premises currently renovated and turned into lofts. El Bosquet de Can Sefó, a natural park for different outdoor activities, is also worthy of mention.

Ice wells – Ginebreda ice wells
To reach the ice wells (Poues, in Catalan), it’s recommendable to walk from the El Vapor industrial estate in Castellterçol, since the access to the wells (Poues) from the road is difficult. Once at the industrial estate, you need to stand facing the companies Natursoy and Sutracas. Follow the passage between them, which leads around Natursoy and takes you behind the factory. Cross the stream and follow the path. The walk takes only a quarter of an hour and it is easily accessible. This option enables you to park your car in the El Vapor car park.
Ice production came to prominence in the Moianès region due to its climate and the proximity of Barcelona. Castellterçol was the town which best organized ice production and trading in the pre-industrial period, and nowadays, it still has the highest number of ice wells, pools, loaders... Among them are the Ginebreda ice wells (a site which can be visited and belongs to the Ecomuseum of Moianès), out of which we can visit the ice well 3, where you can learn what an ice well was like, the way it worked and the way ice was marketed or you can visit the chapel of the only guild of ice well workers that has ever existed in Catalonia.
